CALIFORNIA BICYCLE COALITION

Cal Bike promotes one of the most important ways we can reduce our carbon footprint: making cycling a safe, inviting alternative to automobile use.  They are our statewide bicycle lobbying and advocacy group with a successful record proposing and supporting progressive cycling legislation in the Capital and serving as a resource for local bicycle groups.  You can learn more about their campaigns at their website.

CITIZEN’S CLIMATE LOBBY

I have also chosen to support Citizens’ Climate Lobby because I believe they are working on one of the most important ways we can shift the energy policies that endanger our planet: putting a price on carbon.  For all the damage that coal and petroleum cause, It baffles me that there is no cost associated with using these fuels.  If there were, it could be a huge incentive to encourage use of cleaner energy. But this won’t happen without creating the political will.  To do that, CCL mobilizes their members to meet with their elected representatives and communicate with them and the media.  Their market-based carbon fee-and-dividend proposal (which puts a fee on carbon and returns it as a dividend to consumers) is intended to neutralize the opposition that a direct tax would create.
